Mono, Rotavirus, RSV.....What Next?!?!?!

Okay...I know I said I would get back to my old ways of posting at least once a week....but so far, 2012 has not been kind to our family. At the beginning of January, Makena tested positive for mono. This came after 7 straight days of 101-104.9 fevers. We were happy to find out exactly what was wrong but discouraged to know that the only thing you can do with mono is wait it out.

The same day we found out Makena had mono, I took Mason to urgent care because we couldn't get him to stop throwing up. We were told he had a terrible case of the stomach flu, which is what I talked about in my post below. We were hopeful he was on the road to recovery but had to take him right back to urgent care. This is when we found he actually had rotavirus instead of the stomach flu. We were happy to find out what was really wrong with the little man but again discouraged that there was nothing we could do for him. After 3 full weeks, we were starting to see some good improvements and hopeful that we could get back to some kind of routine.

Two days later, Mason had a bad cough and terrible runny nose. After what we had been through, I honestly thought a simple cold would be a walk in the park. Sadly, we realized it had to be more than a cold because he was constantly digging in his ears and had two black eyes. So....back to the Dr we went. Mason tested positive for RSV. My poor, poor little man. He had been digging in his ears and developed black eyes because there was so much pressure in his sinuses! Yet again, we were glad to know exactly what was wrong but discouraged that there was nothing we could give him to make him feel better.

One month later, Makena is back to normal and Mason is showing signs of improvement. He's spent the weekend playing, eating a little solid food and getting back some strength. It's AWESOME to hear both of them play and laugh together. Crossing my fingers that the worst of winter sickness is behind us!!!!
